Join us for a conversation on a more walkable future for Portland!

The City of Portland is excited to invite you to “A More Walkable Portland,” a special presentation by Jeff Speck, renowned urban planner and author of Walkable City, the best-selling urban planning book written this century. As part of Portland in Motion, the City's first comprehensive transportation plan in more than 30 years, this conversation will bring the community together to think through a more walkable future for Portland.

This event will be hosted at the Portland Museum of Art in the Bernard Osher Foundation Auditorium on Wednesday, September 30th, 2026. Doors open at 6:30 PM, and the program will begin at 7:00 PM. The talk is free and open to the public. RSVPs are encouraged due to capacity constraints in the auditorium. You do not need to bring a ticket for entry.

Internationally recognized for his expertise in designing walkable, vibrant places and co-founder of Speck Dempsey, an urban planning firm, Jeff Speck will present core principles of pedestrian-oriented design and discuss their relevance to Portland’s unique context. Following Jeff's presentation, there will be a panel discussion on the City's comprehensive transportation plan also featuring City staff and local transportation leaders.

There will be a book signing following the panel discussion where Jeff will be available to sign copies of Walkable City.

“A More Walkable Portland” will be held in conjunction with Portland in Motion, representing an important moment for the City as it embraces innovative ideas to improve quality of life, promote sustainability, and foster community engagement.
